CLEOPATRA’S CHARIOT in collaboration with Satch Hoyt  (2018-2019- work in progress)

.

.

Cleopatra’s Chariot is a film and music project that takes on the format of eight vignettes addressing political and poetic narratives interlaced with original footage and found footage in dialogue with Satch Hoyt’s works.
The film is set and pulses in a stream of Black Cosmologies and Mythologies where Afrofuturism and the re-imagination of a utopian Africa is presented thru an act of repossessing Cleopatra and portraying her as an African woman.

APPENDIX (work in progress)

Appendix is the follow-up to Role Plays’ Chapter 3. The third chapter of this film deals with the colonial and slave trade past of my family. Since I finished the film, I pursued my research. I gather a private archive of objects, sounds, interviews to put the official archive and his interpretation into question in the context of contemporary and future history; to prevent reproducing, over the generations, a sanitized, hidden or deceitful version of this history.

First outline presented as a publication at Scriptings, (Berlin, Achim Lengerer)  www.scriptings.net

Role Plays – an essayistic documentary film with biographic and autobiographic elements – tells about the training within “development aid” in a French education centre in Romans-sur-Isère, France. Outgoing from the experiences and the subjective perspective of two young French men, Kévin and Bruno, the film questions the system of French humanitarian aid processes rooted in colonial relations. It shows the fine interweaving of Kévin´s and Bruno’s stories, the director’s story herself, and also the French colonial history which pulls through her family history.

THE IGNORANT SCHOOLMASTER – COMMENTS

71 min, 2011, HD Video

.

.

The ignorant schoolmaster – comments is a parable on authority, teaching and language, inspired by the book of the same name by contemporary philosopher Jacques Rancière. Regularly switching visual and narrative registers, Jordane Maurs combines observations at a bilinugal elementary school in Berlin with conversations she had with French speaking Africans about body, language, and authority. Through association and gestures the educational and the colonial narrative develop cross-references: teaching, instruction, indoctrination, subordination become inseperable when it comes to learning a language.” Tobias Hering
